Prospective Weekend Open House & Next week’s meeting

Thanks to all the prospective students who attended our open house on Friday. I hope the meeting was enjoyable and informative.  The powerpoint presentation that I presented is available here. The syllabus for Juergen’s Semantic Typology seminar is here, which he discussed in the context of his work on his and David’s Wilkin’s Empirical Semantics textbook.

Next lab meeting (March 1), Kate and I will be discussing (in some order that is not necessarily what follows): project management (methods and software tools), data management and archiving, and various issues we’ve come across in running the statistical analyses. The discussion will include (but not be limited to):

  • how best to manage large quantities of different types of data
  • how best to manage versions of data files that are used for statistical analyses
  • how to manage data collaboratively (accessibility vs. compatibility and consistency)
  • independence issues and other nuances unique to the MesoSpace data set

See you there!
